With great joy and hope, the Diocese of San Diego invites you to the launching of our five-year journey toward the 500th anniversary of Our Lady of Guadalupe’s apparitions to St. Juan Diego in 1531.
Our journey begins on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cathedral Catholic High School.
This is more than an anniversary; it is an invitation to encounter Christ anew through Mary. With tenderness and compassion, Our Lady of Guadalupe drew Juan Diego close to her. Today, she continues to call the People of God to walk together toward her Son, Jesus, whose Sacred Heart is the source of mercy, healing, and hope.
Our theme for this first year is:
“An Encounter with Our Lady of Guadalupe: The People of God Journey to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through Mary.”
Our goal is through this initiative to invite all cultures and peoples to come together as one diocese and to get to know our lady of Gudalupe. Together, we will begin this journey through prayer, encounter, evangelization, and deeper devotion, asking how Our Lady of Guadalupe can lead us to a renewed relationship with Jesus and with one another as one people of God.
The day will include:
A procession with the Tilma relic of Our Lady of Guadalupe — we hope every parish in our diocese will be represented
A prayer service
A live representation of the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego
A multilingual rosary
A song after each mystery
A procession of people with a rose and petitions
Live mariachi music
A joyful festival and celebration of our faith
We invite families, young people, parish communities, clergy, religious, and all the faithful of the Diocese of San Diego to join us for this historic beginning.
Let us set out together as one family of faith, walking with Mary toward the Sacred Heart of her Son.
Come with your parish, your family, and your heart open to an encounter with Our Lady of Guadalupe and with Jesus Christ.
