DESCRIPTION:On June 20 and 21\, we will take up the Peter’s Pence Collect
 ion to support the work of the Holy See\, the charitable works of Pope Leo
 . Take this opportunity to join our first American Pope and be a sign of m
 ercy to all who are suffering all over the world. Please pick up a Peter
 ’s Pence envelope and return it when you can during the months of June a
 nd July.\n\n“Peter’s Pence” began as an actual “pence” in ninth 
 century England by King Alfred the Great. Pope Pius IX began the modern-da
 y collection in the 1860s. These appeals have been continually held near t
 he Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul. Quite different in personality and gifts\
 , these two saints of the early Church remind us: It is not we who choose 
 Christ\, but he who chooses us.\n\nIt is the Lord who calls and gives us e
 very good gift (including our finances). We need to be grateful in our res
 ponse to him because we are stewards. We provide a witness of love by all 
 the outreach and charity that is a part of our lives\, so people know we a
 re Catholics. Similarly\, by the works of the Church throughout the world\
 , we show our solidarity with the Holy Father that distinguishes us as a p
 eople of faith ready to respond to the needs of those who suffer everywher
 e.\n\nThe collection:\n\n• Enables the Holy Father to respond with immed
 iate emergency assistance throughout the world.\n\n• Involves over 1 bil
 lion Catholics worldwide in support of the same mission.\n\n• Unites us 
 as signs of mercy for the poor.\n\nPray for the intentions of those who su
 pport and are supported by this gift of financial stewardship ─ and give
