 Collection to support the work of the Holy See\, the charitable works of P
 ope Leo. Take this opportunity to join our first American Pope and be a si
 gn of mercy to all who are suffering all over the world. Please pick up a 
 Peter’s Pence envelope and return it when you can by the end of July.\n\
 n“Peter’s Pence” began as an actual “pence” in ninth century Eng
 land by King Alfred the Great. Pope Pius IX began the modern-day collectio
 n in the 1860s. These appeals have been continually held near the Feast of
  Sts. Peter and Paul. Quite different in personality and gifts\, these two
  saints of the early Church remind us: It is not we who choose Christ\, bu
 t he who chooses us.\n\nIt is the Lord who calls and gives us every good g
 ift (including our finances). We need to be grateful in our response to hi
 m because we are stewards. We provide a witness of love by all the outreac
 h and charity that is a part of our lives\, so people know we are Catholic
 s. Similarly\, by the works of the Church throughout the world\, we show o
 ur solidarity with the Holy Father that distinguishes us as a people of fa
 ith ready to respond to the needs of those who suffer everywhere.\n\nThe c

 ncy assistance throughout the world.\n\n• Involves over 1 billion Cathol
 ics worldwide in support of the same mission.\n\n• Unites us as signs of
