Of all the times of the year when we need to focus on how we give comfort to others, it is Advent. It is the time when we open our homes and entertain friends and family with food and drink and treats of the season – good hospitality. In a Christian sense though, it is different.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we channel God’s love through hospitality when we care for those dependent on us for joy. The All Hallows parishioners have long recognized how important it is to give to those in need throughout the San Diego community and across the border. We always include an outreach during the season of Advent. we cannot collect any clothing, new or used, this year for Tijuana. These toys and blankets will be included in a Christmas distribution. Last year, families came early by foot or bus from distant “neighborhoods” to spend the cold night on the street outside the Casa for the event.

This year, as well, they will be given a hot breakfast and the food baskets, blankets, and toys will be distributed, making the feast of Christmas a happy one. Tijuana Outreach: Casa de los Pobres The Franciscan Missionary Sisters have been serving the destitute and refugees in Tijuana since 1949. They reach thousands each week with their kindness and love. The needs of these poor are endless and especially urgent in the winter months.

Many All Hallows parishioners provide financial support throughout the year, but we come together to do even more during the Advent season. This weekend, the sisters themselves were with our congregation at the Masses. An opportunity to make a financial donation has been provided. You will notice the boxes in the Foyer. You are asked to fill them with unwrapped new and simple toys and warm blankets (preferably new).

Donations via checks should be made out to “Casa de los Pobres, USA” or to All Hallows Catholic Church with Casa in the memo.
