“It’s the pruning season for many of us! Cutting away the dead branches of winter to let the new blossoms and buds of spring grow,” says Father Jerry in today’s homily. “It’s the time for gathering up the debris and dead thatch of our lawns and gardens, turning over the soil, and re-seeding the bear patches.”
Clearly, Jesus is not talking about our front yards or gardens in today’s gospel! But there’s a spirituality of pruning away the dead and useless in our lives… Of cutting away the angst and division in our lives… Of gathering up and disposing what distracts and disconnects us from the things of God.
