- 2 c. dried macaroni
- 1/2 stick butter
- 4 T. regular flour
- 2 c. milk (regular or 2 percent)
- 1 tsp.salt
- 1/2 c. white wine
- 1/2 tsp. fresh grated nutmeg OR 2 tsp. worcestershire
- 3 c. grated cheese (1/2 sharp cheddar and 1/2 Jarlsberg OR Gruyère)
- dried bread crumbs
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Cook and drain macaroni. Grate cheese. Make a white sauce by melting 4 T. butter, stir in 4 T. flour and stir. Slowly stir in milk and stir constantly until thickened. Stir in salt, wine, nutmeg OR worcestershire. Stir in cheese until melted. Pour sauce over macaroni and combine well. Pour into a casserole and sprinkle lightly with crumbs. Spray crumbs lightly with oil spray. Bake 20-25 minutes until lightly browned on top. Note: I sometimes will add small cubes of ham to this casserole (when not on a Friday in Lent). The family will like this.
