The Feast of Saint Andrew Dũng-Lạc

Today the church celebrates The Feast of Saint Andrew Dũng-Lạc, priest, martyr, and companions, also martyrs. During the 17th to the 19th centuries in Vietnam, some 130 Christians suffered cruel martyrdom, many by decapitation or strangulation. Today, 117 most of them killed between 1820 and 1840, are remembered. They include seven Dominicans, 10 members of the Society of the Foreign Missions of Paris, and 96 Vietnamese, 37 priests including Andrew Dũng-Lạc, 59 laypersons, one seminarian and ten Dominican tertiaries. All of them were canonized on the 19th of June 1988 by Pope John Paul II.
