When Chelsea was eight years old, she lost her beloved swim coach to gun violence in the middle of the swim season. From that moment on, art went from being Chelsea’s hobby to becoming her therapy. Chelsea realized that other children also go through similar trauma.

So for her birthday last summer, Chelsea asked party guests to bring art supplies instead of presents. From those gifts, Chelsea assembled 40 art kits for New York homeless shelters, and that was the beginning of Chelsea’s charity. In the months that followed, Chelsea and her mom created nearly a thousand kits for youth in need.

Chelsea hopes her kits will give other children something fun to do when they’re feeling down.
