“If we are honest with ourselves, we are impressed by people with money, and the celebrity and style that comes with it,” says Father Jerry, “We give considerable weight to those who share their opinion in the media. We assume they’re brilliant just because they have a media platform.”

Jesus challenges that perspective in today’s Gospel. “Never mind, the glitz and glamour,” Father Jerry encourages us, “Forget the places of honor and the media spotlight. Don’t be taken with the fame and fortune. Look to what they DO with what they have. Watch how they treat others. And be aware of the good that they inspire.”

Instill in us, O Lord, your spirit of wisdom that sees beyond the riches of the world, to seek instead the riches of your kingdom.
