Today’s Gospel is worth reading very carefully, for its message of forgiveness in the withering fig tree. Jesus cursed a fig tree as He walked the half hour between Bethany and Jerusalem. Outside and away from Jerusalem, Bethany had many fig tree groves and it was a place where the poor and sick gathered. Jesus spots a fig tree that had no figs on it and He curses it. Jesus is comparing the fruitless tree to the heartless Jewish leaders. The lesson is all about being merciful; Jesus asks us to overturn any unforgiveness in our lives, thus producing fruit that lasts. Watch today’s video above with Father Jerry.
